Just when we think we are free from our parents' orbit, we recognize some new mannerism or habit we can trace back to a father or mother. And it might be one that disgusted us.
So, in a way, for better or for worse, they never leave us. There's nothing we can do about it, it is embedded in our character, our low level format, it is under our hat, it is what defines us, makes us cuss and fuss, that which makes us us.
Many of us can't bring ourselves to change, to mitigate the way we are, to root out those faulty fetishes and berserk quirks, for fear of losing our internal amenities, our indigenous identity, our slender strand of security that links us to the Real World, that makes us want to hurl…chunks.
And so we go, bouncing from pillar to post, part to host, willy-nilly, psychotically silly, resigned to our fate, consigned to the tasteless, faceless human rat race.

Mother Won’t Leave Us
Me:
What's the matter with us
the fulsome big fuss is
I verbally stoned, shooed
pregnant doged, dissed, and dismissed her
(Please note my frown)
she won't stay down
But she so slunk away
not admitting defeat
But you know, bro, she
still slinks through my sleep
I saw her the other day
in the middle of the street
She's braying, her body swaying
her hands wringing, flailing
She says, and she nails me
Without me, you're incomplete
And you'll never compete
in the Real World above
in the theater of love
You'll never unwind
you'll never unravel
the grit, the gravel
the babble, the rabble
littering your life's travel
Alice:
I know where you've been
the dents you've within, inside
And though you wander far and wide
I'll never leave; we'll always interleave
though you still don't believe
I've become your unsung mother
Your weevil, evil mother, like any other
that claws grace from flaws
the very one, Hon, that borrows
that starts most quarrels
that rubs you raw
Although I seem meaningless
I'm not all that seamless
No amount of behooving
sooth saying, flag waving
inner furniture moving
will be removing
me from you
So come enfold me
hold me boldly, sweetly
I can remake you completely
No other Alices can compete
with me, don't you see
I can see you crying
I'm still not buying
your stubborn denial
while your smile
blossoms despite of
in the black light of
your underlying guile
your undermining bile
You're so blue, so cyanotic
so psychotic, so chaotic
what for are you asking
What's got you into me?
You thinking you're free
All the while, the underlying denial
The dream, the River Nile
washes you, coshes you stupid
with sentimentality
shields you, you darling, from
barbed arrows à la Cupid
cradles you in totality
But, what does it mean?
It means you're never, ever clean
It's us crying out of your eyes
It's like throwing your change
into a bottomless wishing well
listening for a tolling bell
watching for a tell
a sign, change of mind
it's like flying blind
paying no never mind
Oh, how you're in a bind
Can't you tell you're mine
It's the grand design
the amalgam, your sum
You've been stung
stripped of all cunning
When have you ever been
so hung up, so unstrung
so full of love's cruel stickers?
Don't you dare snicker
wave your clicker
try to change the channel
Listen here, Boy, don't try me
Don't you try spite me
I'm on all of them
You should, ahem
shall we say, be frightful
'bout me turning your lights out
So your stalled life sickens
your mind and body thickens
becomes too much for you
Too quick for you
to scratch your feelings
to know with what or whom
you are dealing
Oh, baby, think of me
Can't you sincerely
think enough of me
not to snub me, but to love me
I'll go before the final scene
the one where you scream
Alice, you don't own me
Just leave me be
Stop your designs on me
Don't say, Alice go to the Devil
to the lowdown downtown level
And hey, don't you say
don't you say, babe
I want you out of me
When you know that can't be
You'd never be complete
Completely meaningful, you see
It's a feint, my little saint
a common complaint, a moot point
Don’t get your nose out of joint
You'll never be free of me
Me:
Oh, brother, mother, aren't you so slick?
Do you always have to lay it on so thick?
In case you ain't heard, I get the last word
