"Can that be said of you?"
by Bob Perks
It hit me hard and made me really think.
It wasn't a bad thing. It wasn't shocking.
I believe most people didn't even hear it.
But I did, I do, that's me.
Walter Cronkite, CBS news anchor,
died and at his memorial service there were
many famous and influential people who
attended. A few close friends had the chance
to talk about him during the service.
I didn't get to hear them all, but even
if I did, I don't believe I would remember
anything but one line.
His long-time friend, Mike Ashford, said...
"I was often asked, what he's really like.
And I would always answer, "He's just the
way you hope he is."
Incredible! What a powerful thought!
I sat there on the couch, my head scanning
back forth as I began to wonder..."Am I?"
Do I put on one face for some but act the
opposite in real life?
Do people see me one way in public and close
friends another way?
If we want to be seen, remembered as
compassionate, caring, loving can we only be
that way sometimes?
If one is labeled as a Christian or a person
of faith, can that same person be prejudice,
self righteous, and unforgiving?
You know the answer...no.
So, ask yourself, "What do others see when
they see me?"
But remember, you are more than what you say
and think...you are what you do.
There is only One who knows the real you.
If God was asked, "what's she really like?"
Would He respond, "She's just the way you
hope she is?"
Me? I'm working on it.
"And that's the way it is!"
"I wish you enough!"
